Christmas Lights in Malaga

Malaga is in the TOP 20 of the most beautiful cities in Europe to visit during the Christmas holidays. How did that happen? Since 1968, the famous Calle Larios, which leads you from Muelle Uno and the port to the center of Málaga - has been transformed from beginning to the end into a fairytale light gallery.

The entire center of Málaga is put in the Christmas spirit and festively decorated. It used to be, of course, far from what it is now. It was just a few stars and garlands from lantern to lantern that today have grown into a Christmas light gallery. The Spaniards have given this Christmas lights a name of enchanting Christmas forest with a magical atmosphere in calle Larios.

Due to the COVID-19 rules to prevent too many people to gather at certain times, no one can answer the question: What time does the light show in Malaga begin? Somewhere between 7pm and 9pm.

The beautiful Cathedral of Malaga is also participating. This weekend before Christmas the first so-called video mapping show started. This is a projection of beautiful images on real surfaces to achieve a more impressive effect. A similar show that was given at Christmas last year in Alcazaba.

NEW THIS YEAR is the light show in the historical botanic gardens of Malaga - that is a fantastic experience ! As twilight falls, the magic begins...Under this motto, Jardín Botánico - Histórico La Concepción in Málaga opens its doors every evening for a very special walk (book in advance online).

Jardin Botanico

Jardín Botánico - Histórico La Concepción has its origins in the union of several farms located on the banks of the River Guadalmedina, north of the city of Malaga. The founders were the Marquis of Casa Loring. their idea to create a garden came as a result of visiting various palaces, villas, parks, estates and botanists they met on their honeymoon across Europe. From the beginning, the gardens were known in Europe, not only for the beautiful and exuberant collection of tropical plants, but for the wonderful collection of archeological remains. Then the estate was sold in 1911 and the new owners also introduced a number of contemporary sculptures to the gardens.

In 1943 the garden was officially declared a historical monument and is considered one of the places of interest in Spain called a Site of Cultural Interest. This winter, the Gardens have been transformed for the first time into an illuminated fairytale scene with impressive staged architecture and imaginative lighting. It is definitely worth a visit.

Not only Málaga city but also the Malaga province and the beautiful white villages such as Vélez-Málaga, Torre del Mar, Almayate, Triana, Rincón de la Victoria, La Cala del Moral, Benagalbón, Nerja, Torrox, Frigiliana, Alcaucín, Benamocarra, Canillas de Aceituno, Canillas de Albaida(Competa), Iznate, Árchez, Moclinejo and El Borge. know beautiful Christmas atmosphere. For example, think of the fiesta de Migas in Torrox with concerts and DJs and much more...

In short, there is a lot to experience and see in Málaga and the province this holiday season. Most light shows can be visited until January 5th, 2022. And then on January 6th, all the children here in Spain celebrate the Three Kings Day. Follow our blog for more news.
