Torrox – Virgen de las Nieves
5 August 2026
The Virgen de las Nieves is the patron saint of Torrox Pueblo.
This important local holiday features a beautiful religious procession through the historic streets surrounding Plaza de la Constitución.
As this is an official local holiday, many shops, banks and public offices remain closed.
The evening procession, illuminated by candles and accompanied by music, is one of the most moving religious celebrations in the region.
12 August 2026 will bring a remarkable natural phenomenon to Spain: a total solar eclipse will cross parts of the Spanish mainland. Here in Málaga and along the Costa del Sol, we will also be able to experience this spectacular celestial event.
Málaga is just outside the path of totality, but we are remarkably close. At the peak of the eclipse, around 95% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon as seen from Málaga. The eclipse begins at approximately 7:43 PM, reaching its maximum at around 8:38 PM, before the Sun gradually begins to reappear.
Even though Málaga will not experience complete totality, a solar eclipse of around 95% is still an extraordinary sight. The amount of sunlight will change noticeably as the Moon moves across the Sun, creating an unusual atmosphere during the evening.
The timing makes the event even more special for the Costa del Sol. The eclipse takes place close to sunset, when the Sun is already low on the western horizon. As the Moon covers most of the Sun, the combination of the partially eclipsed Sun, the evening sky and the Mediterranean landscape promises to create a truly memorable scene.
In other parts of Spain, particularly further north and east, observers will be inside the path of totality and will experience the eclipse in its full form. Across other parts of Andalusia, more than 90% of the Sun will also be covered.

This remains essential even when most of the Sun is covered by the Moon. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide adequate protection for viewing a solar eclipse.
While thousands of people elsewhere will be travelling to find the perfect location from which to experience the eclipse, here on the Costa del Sol we can simply step outside, look towards the western sky and enjoy one of nature's most impressive spectacles.

Night of Wine – Cómpeta
15 August 2026
One of Andalucía's most famous summer festivals returns on 15 August.
The Noche del Vino (Night of Wine) has been declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalucía and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
The celebration honours the region's centuries-old wine-making tradition and the famous Moscatel grapes grown on the steep hillsides surrounding Cómpeta.

The Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a national public holiday throughout Spain.
Most supermarkets, banks and businesses will either close or operate reduced opening hours.
Many villages also hold religious services and evening processions dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
El Morche (Torrox Costa) Summer Fair
12–16 August 2026
